Women and Food
Women and Food
Women's relationship to their bodies directly affects how they eat. Do women think about food more than they think about sex? How does stress about your body and poor food choices affect women's hair, skin and nails?
Shocking Statistics about Body image
Below is a shocking look at body image statistics and how women think about food and thei body.
Women and Food is a facinating study:
A survey was recently conducted by La Trobe University, Melbourne. 400 adult women were surveyed with the following outcomes
• more than two-thirds of women feel uncomfortable looking at themselves naked in the shower
• almost half of all women feel fat every single day and spend each day desperately wanting to lose weight
• one third of women feel the are trapped in a "vicious cycle" of checking their tummy, thighs and bottom to see how much they could allow themselves to eat
• 8 million people in the US suffer from an Eating Disorder 90% of them are women
• The average American woman is 5'4" and 140 pounds
• The average American model is 5' 11" and 117 pounds
• The current media ideal of thinness is achieved by less than 5% of the female population
One out of 10 women are satisfied with their bodies.
It brings me to ponder...is it really that strange to desire to see perfection in the flaws? Or is the Michale Jackson, Cher, Lisa Marie, and Joan Rivers ( the plastic surgery nightmares of the century) going to be the faces of the future?
How did we develop a sense of 'perfection' in the natural state of beauty?
This my friends, is a cultural pariah nibbling at the toes of almost every women. Subtly nipping away the skin, flesh and blood of our feminine.
How deep does the problem go, and should we consider it an issue?
How does it affect us culturally? Socially?
How does it affect our relationship with our bodies, our nutrition, our children?
Does it end in high school? Or is it ubiquitous?
These are the questions I ponder. I do not claim to have the answers...but do I dare to call women to ask themselves the questions... Can we heal this? Should we make it a priority? And... not...does it affect you but HOW DEEP does it affect you?
women sex and food
Do women think about Food more than they think about Sex??
In a recent study done by Weight Watchers
While 58 per cent of women surveyed think about sex at least 10 times a day, some 70 per cent admitted having far more regular fantasies about food.
According to the research nearly two thirds of women are dissatisfied with their size and 53 per cent of those who took part in the survey admitted to thinking about their weight up to 10 times a day.
Three out of four of those questioned thought they would be in the right frame of mind to kick start a healthy eating plan at approximately 11am on Tuesday mornings.
Zoë Hellman Weight Watchers dietitian said: "Many people feel on a Tuesday they still have that beginning of the week energy and the can-do-attitude they need for a diet.
"As it gets later in the week they tend to fall back on that old chestnut, " I'll start the diet next week"
"I think 11am is easier for many because earlier in the day you are more likely to have lots of chores and tasks to distract you from food. Come the afternoon and evening people feel a little more relaxed and for many people a drink or a sweet snack has become part of how they relax."
The Weight Watchers survey also revealed the top five foods women were most likely to break their diets for as chocolate; alcohol, finger food, roast potatoes, desserts.
